Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the city of Mumbai are increasing with every passing day, and the state government along with the civic body, Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has taken important steps to control the spread.

Keeping this rise in mind, the board of Mumbai's Shri Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple have decided to limit the number of devotees who will be allowed in the temple to seek blessings. Officials state that this would be a necessary move to control the spread of COVID-19, and would benefit the visitors and temple staff.

Therefore, the board has ordered that no one should form crowds at the temple premises until further orders.

If one wishes to visit the temple, they will have to register online and only after the confirmation via online booking, a total of 50 devotees will be allowed per hour. Strict guidelines have been drafted by the temple board to ensure no crowding or chaos happens at the premises.

Meanwhile, the state government has also appealed to the people to follow the COVID-19 rules by wearing masks in public and by maintaining the necessary social distance. Local administrations have been asked to keep a check on the same, and to strengthen the guidelines, the fine for not wearing a mask has been increased to INR 500, from the previously imposed INR 200.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in a recent announcement, stated that if needed, the state would observe another lockdown, but with minimal economic impact. The decision is yet to be taken, however, the COVID-19 task force has suggested a strict lockdown after considering the rise in the COVID-19 tally. State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope, also confirmed the same by adding that if people do not follow the rules as directed, the government will have no option but to announce the lockdown for everyone's benefit.

Currently, a night curfew has been imposed across Maharashtra, from 8 pm to 7 am, whereby parks, gardens, malls, cinema houses etc. will remain shut. A gathering of five or more people is prohibited. On the other hand, restaurants and bars cannot allow dine-in post 8 pm but can choose to deliver food. Mumbai local trains and essential services will continue to function as normal.
