Mumbai: Senior Citizen Couple Dies After Ceiling Collapse Of Building In Mulund

In yet another case of negligence has come to light after two people were killed as a portion of a ceiling collapsed in a ground plus two-storey building in Mulund (East).

The incident took place in Moti Chhaya building, Nane Pada, Mulund East on Monday, August 15, at around 7.46 pm. The deceased were identified as Devshankar Nathalal Shukla (93) and his wife, Arkhiben Devshankar Shukla (87).

The couple resided on the first floor of the ground plus two-storey building. Meanwhile, Prabhakar Shinde, a former corporator of this locality, who was present at the spot, said that the deceased couple stayed alone in the building.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s disaster control cell stated that both the victims were rushed to the nearby Ashirwad Critical Care Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. Teams from the fire brigade, police and BMC officials reached the spot after being alerted on the BMC helpline number.

Officials further mentioned that it was approximately 20-25 years old. A notice under section 351 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act was already issued by T ward for unauthorised construction. It was like a showcasue notice asking the owner or occupant of residential structure seeking permissions and authorisations granted by the local administration for carrying out structural alterations, official added.
