A few days back, a vegetable vendor in Borivali tested positive for coronavirus, which led to a state of panic amid the local residents. However, upon investigation by the authorities, it was learned that the vendor had self-isolated himself after he found out he had COVID-19 symptoms. The vendor had not been coming to the market also for the last two weeks. Even though necessary precautions had been taken by the vendor, the authorities have made social distancing norms more stringent.

Maryland Ground in IC Colony, Borivali has been converted into a temporary vegetable market amid the coronavirus pandemic. Following the vendor testing positive, the authorities have chalked out marks on the ground which will ensure social distancing among the vegetable vendors and customers.

Asking the people to not panic and take necessary precautions, former Corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar said, "A state of panic had set in after the news of vendor testing positive in Borivali came out. I just want to ask people to not panic as the vendor had self-quarantined himself and had not come to the market for the last two weeks. However, people still need to ensure that they abide by the social distancing norms and whenever they buy groceries, they must follow the markings on the ground."

The situation in Mumbai along with Maharashtra is dire as the city has recorded the 7,000+ coronavirus cases whereas the state has recorded 10,000+ cases by Thursday night. As of April 30, 2020, COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra hit the 10,000-mark with 10,498 with 459 deaths. On the other hand, the tally of cases in Mumbai reached 7,069 with 290 deaths.

Looking at the situation, Maharashtra State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope, stated that cities like Mumbai and Pune may have to observe this for few more days, and the officials may take a decision to extend the lockdown in Mumbai this until May 18, 2020.
