Amid this humid weather, parts of suburb and South Mumbai has witnessed another power outage on Monday late evening, May 9, owing to a technical fault led.

While several areas saw power failures for nearly 10 minutes, residents in certain areas complained of the cuts for half an hour.

According to reports, a power receiving station in Chembur tripped in the afternoon for 15 minutes, affecting supply to over 85,000 customers in Chembur, Mahul and parts of Tilak Nagar.

People in Wadala, Dadar, Sion and Dharavi experienced failures in the evening, whereas the minor outages in suburban Mumbai, Bandra, Chembur, Mahul, parts of Tilak Nagar, Bombilwadi, Khar road, 24th road in Khar, Santacruz and Chunabhatti were intermittent through the afternoon and evening.

On the other hand, BEST officials said the supply was restored within five minutes of the failure at around 8.35 pm, except in Dharavi as the problem seemed to be at the Tata Power company’s Dharavi station.

In a statement released by the Tata Power Company (TPC), it stated that there was an incident of power outage for a very short time (around 7 minutes) due to tripping of 220kV MSETCL OLTS protection at their Trombay Receiving Station, giving shutdown to 160MW load at Tata Power’s Dharavi Receiving Station. However, the power supply was quickly restored by Tata Power. The power tripping happened at 9:30 pm and it was restored at 9:37 pm on May 9, 2022.

For those unversed, Maharashtra has faced major power outages since April as demand has soared and coal supply has been constrained but Mumbai has not been impacted as severely. However, State Energy Minister Nitin Raut said last month that load shedding is inevitable to some extent in Maharashtra due to shortage of coal and water.
