Just after Gudi Padwa, Maharashtra government has banned plastic and thermocol from the state. The government issued a government resolution (GR) regarding the matter on Saturday. According to the GR, if any person is found using plastic and thermocol, he will have to face a penalty of ₹25,000 or a three-year imprisonment. The resolution has been enforced in order to control the growing use of plastic and thermocol in the state.

The items below are included in the prohibited items of plastic:

  • Thermocouple used for decoration in marriage or birthday
  • Fully banned on a small bottle of water 
  • Cups of plastics, plates, glasses, tablespoons of cutlery, bowl, straw, cutlery, non-oven polypropylene bags, spreadsheets

The 50-micron plastic bags have been exempted from the list but an extra charge of 50 paise will be levied on the 50-micron plastic bag. However, if the plastic is returned, the charge won’t be applicable. Plastic bags for medicine, plastic seats also have been excluded from being prohibited.
