Considering the growing threat of coronavirus infection in Badlapur city near Mumbai, the local administration on Thursday, May 6, decided to impose a strict lockdown in the city for seven days. The lockdown will remain in effect from Saturday, May 8 to May 14.

A total of 19,180 coronavirus patients have been registered in Badlapur so far. Out of which 17,590 patients have recovered and returned home. So far, 209 people in the city have died due to COVID-19.

As of May 5, there are 1381 active patients in the city. Considering the limited healthcare facilities in Badlapur, the increase in the number of patients could put a huge strain on the health system.

Despite the current lockdown, a large number of citizens are seen rushing out of their homes and crowding public places. As a result, the administration is having difficulty breaking the coronavirus chain. Therefore, the administration has decided to impose a strict lockdown in the city.

During this period, the general public will be barred from leaving the house without urgent reasons. Only shops providing essential services will continue during this period. It is said that strict action will be taken against those violating the restrictions.

Moreover, the officials said that they will later review the situation and decide whether to extend the lockdown. Besides, an eight to 10 days lockdown has been imposed in Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts to prevent coronavirus infection.
