The temperature is rising sharply across the state and the heat is now being felt in Mumbai adding to every day worries. People have been expressing concerns about the temperature already and are worried about the conditions they'd experience in the months of peak summer.
As per reports, Mumbai's Santacruz Center recorded a temperature of 40.9 degrees celsius on Saturday, March 27, 2021, and this is said to be 7.7 degrees higher than the average. Santacruz had a maximum temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius on March 28, 1956, followed by 40.5 degrees Celsius in March 2013 and 41.3 degrees Celsius in March 2011.
The coastal regions of the state, including Mumbai, have been facing heat waves for the last three days and the same has intensified since Friday, March 26, 2021. Ratnagiri recorded a temperature 40 degrees Celsius which was 8.2 degrees higher than the average.
The state is currently experiencing dry weather and clear skies, however, the rise in temperature is said to be due to hot winds from Rajasthan which are entering Maharashtra from the east. This has impacted the weather in Konkan and other coastal areas.
The meteorological department has forecast that the heat wave will ease from Sunday, March 28, 2021. Chandrapur in Vidarbha recorded the highest temperature in the state at 41.2 degrees celsius on Saturday. The temperature in Amravati, Brahmapuri, Nagpur and Wardha was 39 degrees. The maximum temperature, in Central Maharashtra areas like Jalgaon and Solapur, was above 40 degrees. However, Pune, Nashik, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Aurangabad, Parbhani and Beed in Marathwada recoreded 38 and 39 degrees.
