Thane: Heavy vehicles gets diversion near Kapurbawdi and Majiwda junctions; Traffic improves
SHARES

Heavy vehicles going to Ghodbunder Road from Bhiwandi-Nashik Bypass Road have been given a right turn (U turn) under Cadbury Junction bridge. Due to this change, the pressure of heavy vehicles at Majiwada Junction has been reduced.

Heavy and light vehicles coming to Thane from Bhiwandi Bypass are sorted before Majiwada Bridge. Installation of a height barrier allows heavy vehicles to pass under the Cadbury Junction bridge from the bridge. Heavy vehicles have started moving towards Ghodbunder Road by using the right turn signalled earlier there. Hence, the congestion of heavy vehicles passing down Majiwada Junction has been eliminated.

On Friday morning, Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Vinaykumar Rathod conducted a joint inspection tour.

Freight traffic from JNPT, Pune, Nashik via Thane passes through Mumbra Bypass and Ghodbunder Road to reach Mumbai or Ahmedabad via Kapurbawdi Junction. Both these junctions within the city had become very congested and complicated. As an alternative to this, U-turn was given to these vehicles before Cadbury Chowk from Majiwada Bridge. So these heavy vehicles are now using Cadbury's U-turn to cross the bridge towards Kapurbawdi. For this, a height barrier was installed before Majiwada Junction. Blinkers on it, before that road signposts were installed.

It has been more than a month since the traffic was diverted through this route. Traffic under the bridge has been smooth. These changes have succeeded in making the traffic under the Majiwada and Kapurbawdi junction bridges completely free of heavy vehicles.

During today's inspection tour, road ramblers should be installed before the height barrier is introduced. Also, the height barrier should be fitted with reflector radium, so that both types of vehicle drivers will get advance notice of lane change and height barrier even at night, Bangar directed to the authorities.

Circular traffic
The Thane Municipal administration and the traffic police are taking various measures to ensure smooth traffic flow at Kapurbawdi and Majiwada Junction. Both these junctions are among the busiest junctions. Here, the traffic of trains takes place in different directions. So, many paths intersect (criss cross pattern). Due to this, the vehicles are blocked. Due to this, the municipality and the traffic police are trying to minimise the criss-cross movement by planning the traffic in a circular manner (rotary) at these two junctions.

As a part of these efforts, a traffic corridor between Majiwada and Kapurbawdi junction needs to be identified. After its implementation, Commissioner Bangar also asked to have zebra crossing, lane marking, grid marking at the junction under the bridge.

Authorised parking
Anti-social elements are rampant in the open spaces under the flyover at Kapurbawdi Naka, Majiwada Naka. Unauthorised parking is done. To prevent this, dirty, unsanitary areas will be cleared and controlled authorised parking will be established there. The tender process has started for that.

During this inspection, parallel parking was observed on both sides of the road through road dividers at Uthalsar. Also, encroachments on footpaths and roads, businessmen-hawkers were also seen to be under control.

The recently opened bridge at K Vila was inspected by Commissioner Bangar. He also took information about the flyover work from Rabodi to Saket. The new box type piers were replaced by demolishing the British era arch piers under the KV Vela Bridge. Therefore, the flow of water has been made possible without any obstruction. This has helped in reducing traffic congestion on K Vila, Uthalsar roads, said Bangar.

Due to the bifurcation under the K Vila bridge, the local citizens raised the matter of rain water accumulating in Bhagirathi Jagannath Housing Society adjacent to the drain. Bangar pointed out that pumps should be installed in these low-lying areas to remove rain water.

Road works were inspected in the Raheja Society area on the LBS route. Also, concreting of the road at Uplab Chowk is almost complete. The area under the bridge will be beautified and the traffic flow will also be improved. He also gave instructions to make zebra crossing, lane marking, grid marking at this intersection.
