Illegal hawkers have started sitting in the premises of Jambli Naka Bhaji Mandai, which supplies fruits and vegetables to retailers in various parts of Thane city, and this has started affecting the business of the traders in the mandai. In this regard, despite complaints to the municipal administration, no action is being taken against the vendors, the traders have decided to keep the vegetable market closed indefinitely from April 15. There are signs that this decision will affect the supply of fruits and vegetables in the city.

There is a large fruit and vegetable market in the Jambli Naka area of Thane. More than 250 fruit and vegetable vendors have been doing business here for many years. Two associations of traders are working here. They include Chhatrapati Shivaji Maidan Vegetable Vendor Seva Sangh and Jijamata Fruit and Vegetable Vendor Seva Sangh. Illegal vendors are doing the business of selling fruits and vegetables on the streets around this vegetable market. These stalls have been sitting since the time of Corona. The number of these hawkers is increasing day by day. These hawkers do their business from 3:30 am to 10:00 am. This has reduced the number of customers in Bhaji Mandi. Due to the impact on the business, traders are facing a financial crisis.

Illegal hawkers also cause traffic congestion on the roads. Due to the illegal market that takes place between 4:00 am and 9:00 am, the traffic of TMT buses and other vehicles on the main roads of the market is stopped and this traffic is released through Talaopali. Due to this, the traffic congestion on the Talaopali to station road causes inconvenience to the citizens. The traders have alleged that no action is being taken against these hawkers despite filing a complaint with the municipality and the police administration.

The hawkers leave the leftover vegetables and spoiled vegetable waste at the same place. Due to this, bad smells are spreading in the area and the health of the citizens is becoming a problem, said the traders. Alleging that no action is being taken against these hawkers despite filing a complaint with the municipality and the police administration, the traders have decided to shut down the fruit and vegetable market indefinitely from April 15. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maidan Vegetable Vendor Seva Sangh and Jijamata Fruit and Vegetable Vendor Seva Sangh recently held a general meeting in which this decision was taken.
