Officials at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), on Wednesday, December 23, decided to launch a special operation to disconnect accounts of those who have not paid bills for a while. As per reports, a total of 1,313 users have been identified with unpaid bills and arrears, and despite being informed, the payments have not been received, owing to which the municipality has decided to take necessary actions.

As per reports, the department has spent a good amount of money and various concessions have been given during the Coronavirus pandemic period, however, the corporation has received very little money in the form of tax and payments. Therefore, the TMC has received orders from the Municipal Commissioner and has asked the treasury to start collecting the pending amounts.

The new initiative has been drafted to recover property tax and water payments pending for the financial year 2020-21. Under this campaign, the water supply has been cut off as immediate action and the officials have decided to seal pump rooms and are planning to confiscate the same as next steps.

However, as a warning, the TMC Has informed that if one wishes to prevent this action, they should pay their water bills immediately and cooperate with the Municipal Corporation to ensure further actions are not taken against them. An appeal regarding the same has also been made by the Water Supply Department.
