During the hearing of a petition filed in the High Court regarding water supply to unauthorised constructions in Mauje Shil, under the jurisdiction of Thane Municipal Corporation, the court directed Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao to investigate the matter of water supply being provided to these unauthorised structures.
In line with the order of the High Court, an urgent meeting of the concerned officials of the Water Supply Department was organised on Thursday, July 24 in the Commissioner's Hall with a view to resolving the issue.
During the meeting, the commissioner ordered that if water supply has been provided to unauthorised constructions, its documents should be checked and if the construction is illegal, the pipe connection should be disconnected immediately. Similarly, if the pipe connection has been taken illegally from the municipal water supply, it should be disconnected immediately.
Furthermore, the Commissioner instructed concerned officials during the meeting to ensure that, going forward, no water connections are granted to any unauthorised constructions without prior building permission from the Municipal Corporation. He also directed that any water connections already provided to such unauthorised structures be immediately disconnected.
Commissioner Saurabh Rao also indicated that action will be taken against those officials who have provided water connections to unauthorised constructions without checking the documents.
Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has directed that a list be prepared of all water connections both with and without permission provided to unauthorised buildings across the nine ward committee areas of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Based on this list, all such connections are to be disconnected. He also instructed that action be taken against illegally constructed borewells.
