Deep Clean Campaign is being launched from Saturday, December 30 in Thane Municipal area. This campaign will be implemented till February 24 in all ward committee areas. The objective of this campaign is to raise the standard of cleanliness and transform public spaces in the municipal sector. Accordingly, Thane Municipal Commissioner (TMC) Abhijit Bangar informed that the civic body has started planning this campaign.


There are nine Ward Committees in Thane Municipal Area. This campaign will be implemented from December 2023 to February 2024 in all those areas. During this period every Saturday a Ward Committee will conduct a campaign like this. The program is being planned on Saturday, December 30, 2023 for the first ward committee and Saturday, February 24, 2024 for the ninth ward committee. 


This activity which will start on Saturday will be implemented for the next full week. The event organised on Saturday will be organised on a grand scale. For the rest of the day, the staff of the concerned ward committee will carry forward the campaign, Commissioner Bangar explained.

The entire cleanliness campaign includes three principles of clean, maintain and improve. The nature of this campaign is beyond daily cleanliness. It is important to take up all the tasks that require special efforts in cleaning, which are not included in daily cleaning. For this, additional manpower and equipment will be made available. The nature of this campaign is to clean the road comprehensively including road sweeping, road washing. Commissioner Bangar also mentioned that the Chief Minister intends to achieve this kind of comprehensive and diligent cleanliness.

Scope of the campaign

This campaign covers roads, link roads, internal roads, small lanes, road dividers - medians, footpaths, footpath adjacent walls, ponds, grounds, parks, public toilets, red spots, markets and localities, bus stops, drains, open drains, street names, direction sign boards, DP boxes and premises, important places, statues, monuments, flyovers and under bridges, all places of public occupation shall be cleaned.

Also, along with the cleaning of public toilets, the area, the road leading to the toilet will also be cleaned. Along with this, the campaign also includes removal of derelict vehicles, unauthorised hoardings, boards, hoardings, removal of hanging wires and spraying of smoke. Drains, chambers will also be cleaned if they are overflowing. Garbage, dust, soil, debris should be removed while cleaning the roads. While cleaning road dividers, curbstones, they will be painted as per requirement.

The work of each ward committee will be planned under the leadership of the Additional Commissioner. So, an officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner will act as the Nodal Officer for these functions. He will have active support from Assistant Commissioner and Executive Engineer. All the staff of each department will be working in the ward committee planning the entire cleanliness drive on Saturday. Commissioner Bangar also explained that essential services such as the health department, water supply department and fire brigade will be an exception to this.


Manpower planning

The employees of the respective departments shall perform their duties within the scope of work determined by the Ward Committee. The Solid Waste Department, Sewage Department, Parks Department, Environment Department, Electricity Department will complete the tasks assigned to them properly. Nodal Officer will be responsible for planning additional manpower as per requirement. 100 percent of the staff of that ward committee of the solid waste department will continue to work in the respective ward committee.


Also, at least 50 percent of the staff of all other ward committees will also continue to work in those ward committees. Only essential work will be done in the Ward Committee on that day. 100 percent of the employees of Parks, Lakes, Encroachment, Sewerage Department, as well as the maximum number of employees from Public Works Department, manpower at all places of cleaning will be working for this campaign.

Citizen participation
Local public representatives, citizens, societies, civic welfare committees, students of NSS and NCC, school students, NGOs will participate in this campaign. Commissioner Shbangar has appealed that the citizens should respond to it.

  • Saturday, February 17 - Mumbra Ward Committee
  • Saturday, February 24 - Diva Ward Committee
