About 550 contract drivers of Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) transport service went on an unannounced strike on Tuesday morning. No increased wages have been received through the contractor. Therefore, the contract employees went on strike. Owing to the strike, there is a rush of passengers at the bus stop.


The TMC provides public transport options through TMT in Thane Municipal area. Although there are 474 buses in the fleet of TMT, about 50 of these buses are not available for passenger transport due to various reasons. 225 of these buses are run by private contractors. These buses depart from Anand Nagar Agar at Ghodbunder. The facility of TMT buses is not sufficient compared to the population of Thane.

TMT drivers went on an undeclared strike on Tuesday morning. The contract employees say that the strike was called because the contractor did not increase the wages as per the rules. Citizens have to bear the consequences of this strike. 


Due to the traffic jam on the Mumbai Nashik highway, other buses of TMT are not available to the passengers in time. Due to this, the citizens are facing inconvenience. TMT officials informed that a way is being worked out by the administration to end the strike. The administration should give a written notice regarding the increase in salary. The contract workers say that the strike will be called off soon after.
