The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a scheduled 24-hour water supply disruption across several parts of the city starting 9 am on Wednesday, July 1, and continuing until 9 am on Thursday, July 2. The temporary shutdown is being carried out by the STEM Authority under the directives of the Water Resources Department.

According to civic officials, the planned maintenance is aimed at improving water management and preparing for any future shortages. During this period, the STEM Authority will suspend its water supply to Thane.

To minimise inconvenience for residents, TMC has introduced a phased water distribution plan using its own supply network. The corporation said this arrangement will ensure that every affected locality receives water at least once during the 24-hour shutdown.

Areas including Ghodbunder Road, Patlipada, Pawar Nagar, Kothari Compound, Azad Nagar, Dongripada, Waghbil, Anand Nagar, Kasarvadavali, Owale, Retibunder, and parts of Mumbra will experience a complete water supply interruption from 9 am to 9 pm on July 1.

Meanwhile, residents in Samata Nagar, Rutu Park, Siddheshwar, Eternity, Johnson, Jail Area, Saket, Uthalsar, Rustomjee, Dosti, Aakruti, and Vartak Nagar (MHADA) will face water cuts from 9 pm on July 1 until 9 am on July 2.

The civic body has also cautioned that normal water pressure may not be restored immediately after the shutdown ends. Some localities could continue to experience low pressure for up to two days as the distribution system stabilises.

TMC has urged citizens to store adequate water before the shutdown and use it judiciously during the disruption. Officials have also appealed for public cooperation while the scheduled maintenance work is carried out.

The announcement comes just weeks after Thane witnessed a 48-hour water supply suspension from June 23 to June 25, when authorities implemented precautionary water cuts due to delayed monsoon rainfall and concerns over declining water reserves.

During that earlier shutdown, water supplied through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) network from the Barvi, Jambhul, and Shahad water treatment plants remained suspended. Officials had stated that the decision followed a review meeting with the Water Resources Department held on June 19, where measures to manage the city's water resources were discussed.
