On Thursday, November 11, the Thane traffic police conducted a special drive wherein over 5,100 motorists were booked and fines till INR 2,02,650 were collected from the offenders, stated a report by the Mid-Day. The majority of the violators were bikers, whose numbers were 1,214, without helmets. 

On the other hand, 483 auto and taxi drivers were fined for driving without uniforms, whilst 227 drivers were spotted with an invalid license. According to the report, the police will continue with such initiatives. 

The traffic police were told on Thursday to curate the drive on every violation in the city limits and the drive was done for 12 hours. 

The report quoted Balasaheb Patil, DCP (Traffic) who elaborated on how this is the commencement of the special initiatives with the action on Thursday being undertaken for all violations. However, going ahead the approach will be more focused. Adding, that they were requesting all the drivers to adhere to the travel rules to avoid police action. 

Earlier too, the traffic police in Thane had initiated a special drive against the modified horns and honking in silence areas.

In other developments, on Friday, in Thane, a Maharashtra Pollution Control Board's contracted tempo caught fire, however, no causalities were reported. The fire was doused in an hour and the vehicle suffered substantial damage.
