The Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office has urged political parties, media organisations and citizens not to compare the draft electoral roll published under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) with the votes polled in the 2024 Assembly elections, saying such comparisons are premature and could be misleading.
The CEO office said the current draft roll is not the final electoral roll and the revision process is still underway. The final list is expected to be published after the ongoing exercise is completed in early November.
During the first phase of SIR-2026, officials primarily verified whether voters were ordinarily residing at the addresses mentioned in their applications. Names of people who were not found at those addresses were therefore not included in the draft roll.
However, voters who have shifted from their previous address but continue to reside within the state can now apply to register at their current place of residence.
The names of deceased voters have also been removed, while the registration of new voters who turned 18 after October 1, 2024, is currently underway.
People who were away from their homes for an extended period or could not be included during the first phase for other reasons can also apply for registration under the ongoing process.
The CEO office said the present phase is focused on adding eligible voters who may have been left out and ensuring that no eligible citizen is excluded from the electoral roll.
It further said that comparing the draft roll with voter figures from previous final rolls prepared under summary revisions would not be appropriate. A meaningful assessment, it said, should be made only after the final electoral roll is officially released.
