The number of CoronaVirus cases in Maharashtra has seen an increase over the last few days. As per reports, submitted by the health ministry, the state has seen the highest single-day jump in the last 24 hours, with 1008 cases reported in one day along with 26 deaths registered on May 1, 2020.

With this increase, the total cases in Maharashtra have increased to 11506 with 485 deaths. On the other hand, 106 patients recovered from the infection and were discharged from the hospital.

Around 73 per cent of today's cases were reported from Mumbai, and the total cases in the city have increased to 7812 and 295 deaths. Pune has 1176 cases with 92 deaths.

On Friday, May 1, 2020, CM Uddhav Thackeray addressed the nation on social media and said that the people of Maharashtra have shown tremendous support in this fight against coronavirus. Talking about the lockdown, he said that the restrictions will not be lifted in red zones and containment zones in the city, as the tally is high.

The Ministry of Health Affairs (MHA) released a new set of guidelines along with the announcement of lockdown extension in India. As per the recent update, the nationwide-lockdown has been extended for two more weeks until May 18, 2020. After the current lockdown ends on May 4, 2020, the movement will be allowed only in green zones and will be strictly monitored. Further, restrictions in red and orange zones will remain as is, and state government have been asked to take a decision on the activities which can be allowed in some areas.
