In a big relief to Mumbaikars, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has chalked out a plan in collaboration with Mumbai Parking Authority (MPA) to tackle the parking space crunch in the city.

Now, locals, visitors and commercial vehicle owners will be permitted to park their vehicles across eight malls in the night between 11 pm and 8 am in the city starting December 1.

The eight malls will include -- Growels 101 Mall in Kandivli (E), Infiniti Mall in Andheri (W) and Malad (W), Inorbit Mall (Malad), Phoenix Market City Mall (Kurla), R-City Mall (Ghatkopar), R-Mall (Mulund) and Phoenix Mall (Lower Parel).

According to officials, this move will clear over 6,500 vehicles from Mumbai’s roads at night, said civic officials. It will be a huge relief to people living in housing societies with little space for parking.

Though the malls will be charging anything between INR 2,500 and INR 3,500 per month for the facility, whereas a few malls might only offer weekly passes or overnight basis.

The highest number of parking spaces, with over 1,100 are available at Phoenix Palladium at Lower Parel at INR 3,500 per month. The parking rates were decided by the mall authorities.

To meet the rising demands of affordable parking spaces in each ward, the MPA team is also actively identifying open and vacant plots which can be converted into a surface or underground parking facility.
