It has come to light that Ahmednagar has the highest COVID positivity rate with 5.3 per cent in Maharashtra. However, as per data revealed by the health department, apart from Ahmednagar, none of the districts have a test positivity rate over the five per cent mark, which has happened after a long time.

The districts with high positivity rates are Pune (4.62%), Sangli (3.97%), Sindhudurg (3.46%), Osmanabad (3.40%), Nashik (2.94%), Palghar (2.56%) and Satara (2.37%).

Neighbouring districts like Beed and Nashik have also been asked to keep an eye on new coronavirus patients.

Meanwhile, officials have attributed the increase in positivity rate due to violation of COVID-appropriate behaviour after restriction relaxations were announced in the second week of August.

Weekly data of the state government has revealed that 10 districts have reported 73.3% of the total active cases in the state. These include Pune, Thane, Ahmednagar, Mumbai and Satara.

Amid the festival season, Mumbai has already witnessed a slight 0.10% rise in the seven-day positivity rate compared to the previous week.

In the past seven days, the district has conducted 96,824 tests — the third-highest number of testing done in the state after Mumbai and Pune.
