On Thursday, February 24, Mumbai reported under 200 COVID-19 cases and TPR also was below one per cent, highlighted data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). While the city registered 119 fresh coronavirus infections, the overall tally stood at 10,55,161.

Additionally, one fatality was also reported owing to the novel virus. According to reports, from the 24 municipal wards, K/West wards that covers the Andheri west, Juhu and Versova areas presently have nearly 130 active cases. This is reported to be the highest amongst wards.

Based on accounts, senior BMC officials have attributed this to the larger number of people residing in high-rises. Similarly, certain other wards that also have high active cases include the H/West ward and L ward that entails Bandra west and Kurla respectively. These wards have 93 and 84 cases consequently.

Additional Municipal Commissioner, Suresh Kakani was quoted in a narrative elaborating on how the population in the K/West ward is higher in contrast to other wards. This coupled with its proximity to the airport and hub of film shoots results in a larger number of cases, he added.

Kakani further remarked that the overall trend in the city is low and the number of cases is consistently reducing with the number of people needing hospitalizations is also marginal. He uttered that they are hopeful that the number of active cases could further reduce in the next week, stated the report.
