Maharashtra is currently witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases. As a result, various district administrations are taking tough steps to stem the flow of rising cases of coronavirus.

Now, Latur is among districts in Maharashtra where a night curfew will be imposed to curb the further spread of COVID-19. This night curfew will come into effect from March 15.

According to the order issued by Latur Collector Prithviraj BP, on Sunday, March 14, the night curfew will be enforced between 8 pm and 5 am each night until further notice.

However, the emergency services will be allowed to function as usual during the curfew period. The district administration has also directed to shut all the weekly markets till March 31.

The development comes a few days after 44 students residing in a hostel in the MIDC area near Latur tested positive for COVID-19. Last month, 47 other students from the same hostel were found infected.

The other places in Maharashtra that have put restrictions are Aurangabad, Nagpur, Parbhani, Osmanabad, Pune, Nanded, Thane, Palghar, Jalgaon and Nashik.

Meanwhile, last week, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had said strict lockdown measures will be enforced in some parts of the state to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily count of new COVID-19 cases in the country, with the state reporting over 16 thousand cases in the past 24 hours, as per the state health reports on Sunday evening.
