Cyclone Vayu along with monsoon showers has intensified the strong winds in Mumbai. The falling of trees is one of the most common rain-related reasons for an increasing number of deaths in the city. The incidences have started this year too as the monsoon begins to hit the city.

In a recently reported incident, Anil Namdeo Ghosalkar (48) was injured on Sunday, June 13, 2019, after a tree collapsed on him near the Takshila temple in Jogeshwari. He was then admitted at the Holy Spirit Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries on June 14.

In another incident in Malad, Shailesh Mohanlal Rathod (38) was injured after a tree fell on him at 6:30 am on June 14 while he was on his way to a Jain temple. He was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali where he was declared dead. Rathod's relatives blamed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as it is their responsibility to trim trees but the authorities have said that the tree wasn't trimmed as it was inside private premises.

Another incident that has come to light is of Nitin Vishnu Shirvalkar (43) who was an employee of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and a tree fell on him at Anushakti Nagar in Govandi. He was rushed to BARC hospital where he was pronounced dead.
