Medical Stores to stay closed on September 28 in protest against e-Pharmacy

The medical shop owners and pharmacists will keep the medical stores closed as a sign of protest against e-Pharmacy. The shops will be shut down from Thursday midnight to Friday midnight.

Since the legal approval of e-Pharmacy by the Central Government, pharmacists and medical shop owners have been opposing the decision. However, thousands of pharmacists and shopkeepers have declared the shutdown of their shops for a day in protest of the Centre’s decision to approve e-Pharmacy.

Therefore, Maharashtra State Chemist and Druggist Association (MSCDA) Secretary Anil Navandar stated that the medical stores will be kept closed from Thursday midnight to Friday midnight, i.e. September 28.

The approval procedure for e-Pharmacy is in its final stage and so, the pharmacists and the shopkeepers stated that due to the e-Pharmacy, their livelihood will be in danger. He also added that lakhs of shopkeepers and pharmacists will be adversely affected due to the introduction of e-Pharmacy. Similarly, he expressed his concerns by stating that the H and H-1 medicines which are illegal, are easily available through e-Pharmacy.

Navandar said that the protest has been organised with the support of All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists Association. The protestors have also decided to display their protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan at 12:00 pm on Friday.
