The Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivali which was opened to the public in mid-December last year has witnessed a massive response from the tourists due to which the numbers of visitors are steadily increasing every day.

With the restrictions regards to COVID-19 gradually beginning to ease out across the city of Mumbai, one-day city tours, food and nature trails at Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Aarey Milk Colony in the western suburbs, football and cricket tournaments in long-forgotten public parks and gardens have become more popular.

At present, all the activities in the park are in progress except the Kanheri Caves. Moreover, about 28,000 to 30,000 tourists have visited the National Park in the last month.

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which has been closed for about eight and a half months due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown was reopened to tourists on December 15, 2020. Prior to that, the National Park had resumed operations from October 15 for a limited time in the morning only for morning walks. When the national park was opened to tourists in December, tiger and lion rides, boat rides and forest (mini train) activities were closed. However, all the activities were started in phases during this period.

As of now, about 7,000 to 8,000 tourists visit the park every week. As a result, the park reportedly received revenue of around INR 5 to 6 lakhs from the entrance fee at SGNP.
