With increasing road accidents in Mumbai, the city’s traffic police has taken major steps to stop the non-precautious riders. If one doesn’t follow traffic rules properly, an FIR will be filed against the violator under section 283 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). This action has been initiated from October 1. 

Until now, Police has registered complaints against 40 people for such crimes. With the ongoing construction of metro in Mumbai, the traffic has increased adding to the problem are the drivers who don’t consciously drive.

In Maharashtra, there is an accident every 40 minutes, the traffic police have informed. A senior official said that most of the accidents happened due to the violation of traffic rules. 

To deter this and punish those who violate traffic rules, the police has initiated a new concept of e-challan. The drivers who break the traffic rules will be directly punished and fined.
