In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on Wednesday afternoon in Raigad, a young life was tragically cut short during a routine practice session at the INT English School ground in Purar, Goregaon. Hujefa Daware, a 15-year-old student, met with an unfortunate accident when he was struck in the head by a javelin hurled by another student. The incident has shaken the community and sparked legal action against those responsible.
Legal Action Initiated
The aftermath of this devastating incident saw the initiation of a culpable homicide case, albeit not amounting to murder. This legal action was directed towards the student who threw the javelin and the organizing committee of the INT Academy, the entity behind the sports competition. The decision to file an FIR (First Information Report) came in response to a formal complaint lodged by concerned parties.
Law Enforcement's Response
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Atul Zende, stated, "An FIR has been filed, and the investigation is currently underway." Authorities were quick to emphasize that the organizing committee had neglected essential safety measures during the javelin practice session, contributing to the tragic outcome. As of now, no arrests have been made, but the investigation continues to unfold.
The Tragic Sequence of Events
Assistant Police Inspector Shrikrushna Navale of the Goregaon police station provided a detailed account of the incident. On that fateful day, students from various schools had congregated at the INT English School ground for a taluka-level sports competition. At around 12:30 pm, Hujefa Daware threw his javelin, only to momentarily bend down to tie his shoelaces. Tragically, another student, unaware of Daware's actions, released a javelin in his direction. When Daware rose to his feet, the javelin struck him in the head, resulting in the grievous injury.
Investigation and Safety Protocols
While the incident initially appears to be an unfortunate accident, law enforcement sources are rigorously scrutinizing the prescribed safety protocols for javelin play. It has been highlighted that during such sporting events, the designated area for javelin throws should be treated as a no man's land to prevent such tragic mishaps. A senior officer underscored the importance of vigilance even during practice sessions, particularly given that the accident occurred after the sports event had commenced.
