 Fourteen people were reported to be trapped under debris after a portion of a ground-plus-two chawl structure collapsed. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday. Mumbai Fire Brigade officials and the locals managed to rescue the residents of Dipjyoti chawl which is located in Laljipada, Kandivali West. 

According to fire brigade officials, two of the residents sustained serious injuries but no deaths were reported. The Kandivali Police said that they did not file an FIR as no deaths had been reported in the incident.

As per the locals, the incident took place at 5:00 am,  trapping the residents, who were sleeping, in their homes. Acting swiftly, the locals were able to rescue two people from the upper floor but the remaining 12 persons were rescued with the help of fire brigade officers. The firemen had to cut window grilles and rescued 12 people who were trapped on different floors with a ladder. 

Two persons, aged 45 and 48, received minor injuries and were admitted to Oscar Hospital, news agency PTI reported quoting an official.
