According to the latest reports, nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams will be deployed throughout the state starting June 15 to curtail response time during flooding and other natural calamities. From these nine teams, two each will be deployed in Mumbai and Thane

On the other hand, one team will be put in Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Satara, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, May 31. Moreover, one team each of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will be stationed in Nanded and Gadchiroli between June 15 and September 15, Thackeray remarked, accounts cited.

Based on narratives, the said resolution was undertaken on Tuesday in a review meeting conducted by the CM in light of the risk natural calamities pose during monsoon. The Maharashtra government hopes that this decision will help significantly reduce the response time for relief and rescue operations.

It has been reported that the meeting was attended by multiple concerned agencies wherein Thackeray elaborated on how Maharashtra was adversely impacted due to excessive rainfall in the past two years. He reportedly added that in accordance with the forecast, rainfall will be good this year. He then went on to appreciate the work done by the agencies while asking them to work in coordination to ensure there are no casualties. Thackeray asked that the water resources department ensure adequate arrangements for releasing water from dams and liaison with concerned officials.

Narratives suggest that Thackeray highlighted the system developed by the water resources department which will allow people to attain real-time data on water released from dams in Maharashtra. This he believes will assist those living near the dams and catchment area. The CM uttered that starting June 15, the information can be accessed from the water resources department’s website.

In other developments, state deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar recommended that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) put flags or banners over manholes during floods in the city to ensure that people are cautious when walking, thus averting unfortunate occurrences, reports stated.
