As the number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai is increasing, Uber has announced its collaboration with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to furnish ambulances with auto dispatch and live-tracking system.

According to media reports, there have been delays faced by the patients and the availability of dashboard for availing ambulance services is also in question. As of June 4, Mumbai has reported 44,931 COVID-19 cases and over 1,368 deaths.

Uber has partnered with the BMC to ensure timely and effective ambulance services for citizens in Mumbai. The company has referred this as a pilot collaboration and it will assist the civic body’s ambulance dispatch system to be automated so that the dispatches can be managed properly.

With the help of Uber, the ambulance dispatch system will be allowed to optimise and dispatch the nearest ambulance in an effective manner. Along with this, the hospitals will be able to track all trips in real-time and ensure effective preparedness.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that the technology can help optimise ambulance dispatch and keep a check on the movement of vehicles. It will also allow the civic body to serve the medical needs of Mumbaikars better.

Uber will also provide technical and functional training to ambulance drivers so that they can easily use to app and map navigation. The citizens can access the service contacting the emergency helpline 108 or 1916 during medical emergencies.

As of June 4, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has risen to 77,793 and the death toll has reached 2,710. As per the health ministry, Maharashtra has reported 2,560 fresh cases and 122 deaths in 24 hours.
