Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray plans to have a submarine tour in the Konkan region. This announcement was made by the CM in the Legislative Assembly. He has asked to check the feasibility of this project. It is expected this will give a big boost to tourism in the state.

There is also a plan being worked out to curb fishing with LED lights. This has been prohibited in the state since 2017 but is still practised by many fishermen who venture in deep waters. The fishes get attracted to the LED light and thus it gets easier to catch them.

Fishing with LED poses a great threat to marine life and it is difficult for the police to track it if it's carried out in deep waters. Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Department Secretary Kiran Kurundkar had issued a notice to ban this practice. He has further directed the coastguards and police to work in tandem so that it can be stopped once and for all.

CM too is of the opinion that there is a need for a complete ban on LED fishing in Konkan. It is being done in deep waters, which are out of state police limits. I have directed the coastguards and police to work in tandem so that it can be stopped.

This submarine project is currently under evaluation. There are also other proposals being considered to boost tourism in the state. There is also a plan in the works to preserve the backwaters of Tilhari Dam.
