Maharashtra is set to follow some of the guidelines put forward by the Central Government in what is being called Unlock 4.0. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will reportedly announce new relaxations in the state soon.

As part of Unlock 4.0, the state is expected to ease curbs on the movement of persons and goods between other states while also increasing occupancy limits for hotels and increase attendance in government offices.

While hotels will see their occupancy increase to 50 per cent, dine-in will only be allowed to guests staying at the property. The government will likely take a call on allowing outsiders to such restaurants at a later date. This will likely come when the state decides to reopen in-person dining at restaurants, though there’s no clarity at this point as to when that will be.

Schools in Maharashtra have been asked to adhere to the Central Government directives. Under this plan, Class 9 to Class 12 students outside containment zones will be allowed to visit schools to consult with their teachers. This will be permitted in the state starting September 21. Students will also need requisite permissions a parent or guardian before visiting their school for consultation.

As per a top official within the government, CM Thackeray will announce the relaxations soon as part of the state’s “Mission Begin Again” initiative. One of the big takeaways from this new phase of reopening is that citizens will most likely not require additional permission or an e-pass to move within the state.

The attendance requirement for IAS officer-level staff has been raised to 100% while attendance for their subordinates has been upped to 30-40 per cent. The authorities will increase the frequency of local trains to help with this move.

The government also hoped to reopen gyms fairly soon. “We are in the process of drafting the standard operating procedure. We expect to grant permission for opening gyms within a week,” an official said.

“We have granted maximum relaxations, despite the fact that there was exponential growth in the number of cases,” the official added. The primary concern among State Government officials is that there could be another spike of COVID-19 cases in the region.
