The Central Railways and Western Railways have proposed the Maharashtra government to resume the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app, which is used for booking local train tickets and seasonal passes, for fully vaccinated commuters.

The sale of suburban tickets stopped on the UTS after local train services were suspended due to the pandemic.

The railway’s ticket booking mobile application, UTS, will be linked with the CoWIN to determine the vaccination status of passengers.

Alok Kansal, general manager of Western Railway, said that railways and state government has reached the final stage of discussion to merge both the applications in order to facilitate a smooth process.

The Maharashtra government and railways recently decided to issue daily tickets to Mumbai local train commuters that are fully vaccinated.

On average, nearly 2.5 million passengers avail local trains on the Central Railway and 1.5 million on the Western Railway. Local train services resumed for fully-vaccinated passengers for the second time from August 15.

At present, only fully vaccinated passengers, who have completed 14 days after the second dose, are allowed to travel by local trains. Eligible passengers need to avail a universal pass, which can be obtained at the suburban railway stations or on http://epassmsdma.mahait.org/.

Moreover, the CR and WR announced to restore 100 per cent suburban services to Pre-COVID level on Mumbai. This came into effect from October 28.
