The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to continue the Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 campaign till July 31.

On Monday, June 6, the civic body took to Twitter and announced: “A drive to speed up vaccination in diff. age groups, especially 12-18 years (1st & 2nd dose), booster dose among 18-59 years and senior citizens will continue till July 31.”

“Under this initiative, beneficiaries will be identified in home-to-home visits and sent to the nearest CVC,” the BMC added.

This move comes at a time when the Maharashtra government has been advocating and urging citizens to take vaccination amid a significant spike in the daily coronavirus cases.

Apart from drafting the due list of unvaccinated/partially vaccinated children, influential citizens in localities will also be asked to talk to families to vaccinate their teenagers.

Moreover, this development came as Mumbai is among the worst performers in vaccinating teenagers compared to other districts in Maharashtra, reports stated.

As per a data revealed by the civic body, nearly 30 per cent of those in the 12-14 age group (4 lakh children) have taken the first dose while only 12 per cent has been administered with the second shot. Meanwhile, in the 15-17 age group, 57 per cent have been administered the first dose and 45% with the second dose. In contrast, vaccination rate in the city's adult age-group is over 100 per cent.

For those unversed, the BMC launched a drive to speed up the coronavirus vaccination rate in the 12-17 age group and to increase booster dose intake among senior citizens in Mumbai. In this, health workers are visiting homes to prepare lists of children between the ages of 12-17 years who have not taken the first and second doses as well as senior citizens above the age of 60 years who have not taken the booster shot.
