A group of fishermen on Tuesday, September 22, 2021, found the carcass of a Baleen whale on the Benapatti coast near Vasai's Suruchi Bagh. As per reports, the whale is 35 feet long and 12 feet wide and was found in the evening on Tuesday. A report regarding the same was published in the Times of India.
Officials state that this is first time such a large whale has been found on the shores of Vasai and hence a large number of people gathered at the beach to see the same. Forest Department officials were immediately informed about the incident after the Vasai police received the same. Authorities from Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) also reached the spot for investigation.

The team has stated that the body had a few wounds. The reason for the injuries are not known yet and the dead fish cells have been sent for examination post which experts would shed more light on the cause of death. Post the investigation, the carcass will be buried at the shore, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, with the help of the concerned team from civic body.
Experts state that about 16 species of Balinese whales are found today and these are also known as whalebone whales.
Whale and shark carcasses have been found earlier in Palghar when they were washed ashore. A few weeks back, Dead Dolphin was washed on Juhu Beach’s Shore and officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated it was the locals around the area that saw the dead dolphin and reported to the authorities.
