The vehicles consisting of the containers was heading towards Gujrat. The driver is believed to lost control as it swerved towards the Mumbai side of the highway.

Earlier, in a bizarre case of an unfortunate accident, 30 odd vehicles collided on the Sion-Panvel highway in Mumbai. This caused a major traffic jam which broke after the intervention of the traffic police. However, no injuries had been reported even though the vehicles are said to be severely damaged.

The suburban railways which have been closed off to the normal public since the month of March have been ferrying essential workers only. As a result, the traffic has increased substantially on the roads of Mumbai. In addition, the work of Metro on that route has been intensified. The Sion-Panvel route moreover leads to Mumbai-Pune and further to Konkan which adds on to the traffic.
