Bombay High Court on Thursday praised the Mumbai Police for working against all odds amid the coronavirus pandemic and appealed the public to cooperate with the police personnel discharging their duties under a lot of pressure.

A division bench of Justice SS Shinde and MS Karnik said that Mumbai Police personnel are working 12-hours a day amid the pandemic and are also managing security for processions and morchas.

Justice Shinde said that Mumbai Police is considered as one of the best in the world and compared it to the Scotland Yard police. He said that cooperation from the people is required during such times.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Sunaina Holey seeking to cancel three FIRs filed against her for allegedly promoting enmity hatred and ill-will among groups in the society.

Holey, a Navi Mumbai resident, had posted offensive remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray on social media. Additional public prosecutor Jayesh Yagnik informed the court that Holey didn’t appear before the investigating officer for recording her statement even after she was issued notice.

Abhinav Chandrachud, Holey’s lawyer, said that she could not appear before the officer due to the health issues. He assured that Holey will appear before the police on November 2.

The court said that the petitioner should extend full cooperation to the Mumbai Police for the investigation. The petition filed by Holey will be heard against on November 23.
