Recently, a video has been doing rounds on multiple social media platforms that show a large crowd at one of the stations. The suburban railway services were resumed on February 1, 2021 after a long gap of 10 months.
The 21-second clip shows huge crowds on the platform as well as the on the tracks. It also shows people trying to get in and out of trains at the Borivali station in the city's suburbs. While most people are thinking of this to be a recent video but it has come to light that the claim is false. The original footage has been circulating online at least since 2016, several years before the coronavirus pandemic.
The video has been removed from the person's post on social media. Similar claims have been made in several other Facebook posts.
The original footage was uploaded on YouTube on March 21, 2016, a reverse image search on Google by AFP has revealed. The video posted by Navin Poojary is caption "Amazing Mumbai local crowd (sic)." "Heavy crowding of mumbai local (sic)," the YouTube user wrote as the description.
The clip has garnered more than 2.8 million views.
