BMC to build a viewing gallery at Dadar Chowpatty

The civic body has issued a tender and the project will cost INR 3.61 crores. It will be a 24 metre-long and 20-metre-wide deck. According to sources, the BMC has said that it has a target to complete the work in eight months.

In another attempt to add a tourist spot and boost tourism in the financial capital, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to build a viewing gallery on top of the storm water drain (SWD) outfall at Dadar beach.

The BMC promises tourists and visitors at Dadar Chowpatty an uninterrupted view of the sea and the skyline standing atop a viewing deck planned at the spot. According to officials, a spectator gallery will be set up on the beach at the back of Chaityabhoomi at Dadar Chowpatty on behalf of the G North Division office of the municipality.

It is said that the elevated deck will be around 16 feet above the sea level. When completed, this 1,500 sq.m structure will allow visitors to get a better view of the sunset while the authorities will also construct ramps to make it wheelchair-accessible.

In a meeting held on September, the BMC officials discussed and presented designs of the project to Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) for its approval. The BMC seeking MCZMA's nod to set up a viewing deck resembling a jetty.

The project was conceptualised by Aaditya Thackeray when he was Yuva Sena chief, with a formal request being made by Vishakha Raut, former Leader of the House in the BMC.
