Rising international tensions have put significant strain on the country’s gas supply chain, leading to delays in providing LPG connections to households nationwide. Amid this scenario, residents of Vini Solitair Cooperative Housing Society which falls in Dahisar, have remained without Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) pipeline connections.

Technical difficulties arose because the neighbouring Sai Shakti Society had not granted permission to lay the pipeline. However, this issue has now been directly addressed in a new central government policy. In an order dated March 24, 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas highlighted that delays in obtaining approvals, excessive charges, and resistance from residential associations are major obstacles in gas distribution across India.

The order also noted that tensions in the Gulf region, disruptions at refineries, and challenges in the Hormuz Strait could have long-term effects on LPG and natural gas supply. To reduce dependence on a single fuel, the government emphasized the expansion of piped gas usage.

Under the new rules, any authority or housing society is mandated to grant pipeline approval within three working days, and rejection of permission is not permitted. This is expected to provide significant relief to pending cases like that of Vini Solitair.

In this context, local corporator and BMC group leader Ganesh Khankar held a meeting with society members, assuring that a solution will be expedited and coordination with relevant authorities will speed up the gas connection process.
