During the work of Metro 3 on the Jeevan Bima route at Churchgate in A section of Mumbai, a 1200 mm diameter main water channel has leaked. The water channel will be repaired on Saturday, May 11 from 3.30 pm to 11.30 pm. Therefore, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that the water supply to Colaba, Koliwada and Naval area will be closed during this eight-hour period. The night water supply to the naval premises is to be provided after the repairs, i.e. delayed.


A water channel of 1,500 mm diameter is used from the Cross Maidan tunnel, and further a water channel of 1,200 mm diameter is used to supply water to A section of Municipal Corporation. It was discovered after it was found that the water supply through this channel was under low pressure and in small quantity. At that time, while the Metro-3 work was underway at Jeevan Bima Marg near the Ministry building, it was noticed that this twelve hundred millimeter diameter water channel had leaked. After that, the Municipal Corporation's repair department inspected the spot.


This water channel leak has to be repaired soon. Otherwise due to leakage there may be risk of water wastage along with road erosion. Water supply will have to be interrupted for seven to eight hours for repairs. Since Mantralaya and Marine Drive are important areas, the Municipal Corporation has immediately contacted the Marine Drive Traffic Police and informed them of the priority of the repair work. Accordingly, permission has been taken for the repair work in order to plan the traffic.


Marine Drive Traffic Police has given permission to repair the water channel on May 11. Accordingly, the repair department under the water engineering department of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to undertake the repair work during eight hours from 3.30 pm to 11.30 pm on May 11. For that, digging will be started from 9 am. After pumping out the water in the canal, the actual repair work will be done from 3.30 pm onwards. Water will be supplied in the morning and afternoon session in the respective areas.


Change in water supply timings (for an eight-hour repair period from 3.30 pm to 11.30 pm)

1. Water supply to these areas is completely shut off

- Colaba (regular water supply 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm), Koliwada (extra water supply 6.30 pm to 6.45 pm), Naval Campus (extra special water supply 6.50 pm to 7.05 pm ) This water supply will be completely shut off.


2. Delayed water supply to this area

- The regular water supply to the Navy between 10.30 pm to 2.50 am will be delayed after completion of repair work, i.e. compared to regular water supply.


Keeping in view the need for repairs, the civic body has appealed to the citizens to keep sufficient water reserves.
