The collective water stock in seven lakes, supplying water to Mumbai, stands at 13.10 lakh million litres, which is 90.55 per cent of capacity as on Thursday morning, August 31.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, on the same date last year, the water stock was 1400572 lakh million litres, equivalent to 96.77 per cent, and in 2021, it was 12.83 lakh million litres, which was 88.86 per cent.

According to BMC data, four out of the seven lakes (Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, and Modak Sagar) overflowed in July. The other three major lakes—Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa—require more rainfall to maintain consistent water levels. Meanwile, Middle Vaitarna has reached beyond 97 per cent of its capacity.

Officials exclaimed that although the amount of rain was sufficient in July, it decreased in August. Overall, despite lakes level increasing this year, they are still down as compared to the previous year.

The island city, eastern and western suburbs received an average rainfall of 0.08 mm, 0.0 mm and 0.06 mm respectively in 24 hours ending at 8 am today, the civic body's data showed.

Bhatsa: 637733 million litres (88.94%), rainfall 2040 mm

Tansa: 145080 million litres (99.02%), rainfall 2271 mm

Upper Vaitarna: 177978 million litres (78.93%), rainfall 1936 mm

Middle Vaitarna: 188245 million litres (97.27%), rainfall 1,889 mm

Modak Sagar: 127219 million litres (98.68%), rainfall 2,638 mm

Tulsi: 8046 million litres (99.15%), rainfall 3511 mm

Vihar: 27698 million litres (100%), rainfall 2541 mm

Total Capacity: 1310571 million litres (90.55% full)
