The Western Railways is to become the first government organization to implement staggered office timings which is to start from today.

As per the note issued by the Divisional Railway Manager’s office, the employees are to work in two shifts. The first shift is to start from 8 am to 2 pm and the second shift is to start from 2 pm to 8 pm.

Moreover, the Western Railways has started new office locations in Virar and Santacruz. This will ensure that the employees working in the Mumbai Division of Western Railways can visit the nearest office rather than travelling all the way to Mumbai Central.

On the other hand, the Western Railways had earlier decided to run 150 additional services through the day. In the past, the daily number of trips would be 350, which has now increased to 500. As of now, each local train can carry a maximum of 700 passengers, keeping in view the social distancing norms.

After three months of strict lockdown, the local services were resumed for people engaged in essential services. According to sources, before the lockdown, 1,200 people could travel easily in a Mumbai local but now as per state norms, only 600-700 people are allowed on each train.
