Mumbai – BMC’s budget has been announced. The mayor has presided in the house. But where is the leader of the opposition? Congress leader Ravi Raja mayor must decide the LOP since two parties have more or less equal numerical strength. As per the tradition in BMC when the budget is presented, first speech is given by Leader of Opposition.
The BMC Act 371A states that when there are two or more parties in the opposition having the same numerical strength, the mayor shall having regard to the status of the party, recognise any one of the leaders of such parties as leader of the opposition.
Manoj Kotak Group Leader, BJP stated that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made it clear we will not work as opposition. We will play the role of watchdog in order to maintain transparency in the civic body.
Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar has ensured that he will seek the legal opinion from the department regarding the selection of Leader of Opposition.
