Wildlife Week has been organised at the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo (Ranichi Baug) with the aim of creating awareness to protect wildlife and their habitat. Various programs based on environment and wildlife, such as photography, painting, nature awareness games, seminars, lectures, workshops, marine walks, nature trails, documentaries, wildlife plays, etc., have been organised this week.

The main objective behind this festival is to celebrate the diversity of Indian wildlife, raise awareness for its conservation, and instill respect for nature in future generations. Wildlife Week is celebrated in the country every year from October 2 to 8. Accordingly, Wildlife Week is also being celebrated in the Byculla zoo.

A nature walk has been organised at the Byculla zoo on Tuesday, October 3 at 10 am, and a documentary screening at 12.30 pm. A painting competition for children has been organised on October 4. After that, various seminars have been organised throughout the day. Meanwhile, on October 6, Mumbaikars will get another opportunity to go for a nature walk in the morning. After that, one will be able to take a Kokedama workshop and take a walk along the beach at Haji Ali again. Meanwhile, in the special program 'Van Ki Baat', one will have the opportunity to hear various interesting and fun facts about wildlife under the guidance of experts. Additionally, the prize distribution ceremony for various competitions held during Wildlife Week is scheduled to take place on October 8.

How did Wildlife Week start?

The Central Wildlife Board took the initiative for Wildlife Week to raise awareness about the important aspects of wildlife in nature. The concept of Wildlife Week was introduced in 1952 to create awareness about the long-term goals of wildlife conservation in India after the establishment of the Central Wildlife Board. Wildlife Day was initially celebrated in 1955. Then Wildlife Week started in 1957.
