On 23 August, Bakri Eid, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, will be celebrated across the country with pomp. However, a petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court demanding celebration of Eid without the goat sacrifice ritual.
The petition has demanded from the Bombay High Court that steps should be taken to prevent the trading of sheep and goats in the Deonar Slaughter-house (abattoir) to stop the sacrifice during the festival. The petition further asked for a ban on the Deonar goat market.
Deonar has a famous goat market which sells goat meat according to their quality. The concerned party has asked to stop this market.
Recently, the Central Government has banned the export of goats and sheep from all the seaports (ports) in the country. At all the ports of the country, there is an indefinite ban on livestock exports at the moment.
The central government took the decision after repeated demands from organisations working for the interests of the animals.
