On November 25, an individual who had returned to Pune from Zambia has tested positive for COVID-19, reported news agency ANI. The man had returned from Zambia to Mumbai on November 20.

Later, he travelled to Pune by taxi and his samples have been sent for genome sequencing. The report for the same is now awaited. According to the account, the Pune Municipal Corporation has conducted an RT-PCR test of his family.

Apart from his family members, even the driver who travelled with him to Pune have been tested. They have all tested negative, claim reports. Additionally, the individual who tested positive is nearly 60-years-old.

Not only is he stable, but also asymptomatic. Currently, he is in home isolation. Amid the scare of the new variant, Omicron, state Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray has voiced his concern over the tracking of those international travellers who don’t directly land in Mumbai, but come to the state using other ways.

Moreover, the state health minister, Rajesh Tope elaborated on the precautionary measures put in place by the government amid concerns about the new variant.

Further, considering the fear over the new variant, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), undertook the decision to postpone the reopening of schools for grades 1-7 in the island city.
