Mumbai Mayor, Kishori Pednekar whilst speaking about Omicron mentioned how the authority conducts RT-PCR tests, as well as, compulsory quarantine for travellers from those countries hit by the new variant, quoted the news agency ANI.

Adding that in case of a sudden spurt, ICU beds, oxygen beds and manpower will be increased. With this, she believes that authorities are ready to go all-in.

Pednekar then also spoke about the reopening of schools in the city, December 1 onwards. She mentioned that whilst schools will reopen from the said day, parents probably won’t send their children in. This is considering the fact that they aren’t vaccinated, she claims.

She however also stated that online classes are functional nonetheless. Amid concerns of the new variant, the Maharashtra government eased certain guidelines. These entail that only those who are fully inoculated will be permitted to use public transport.

In addition to this, Pednekar also reviewed the measures being taken at the Mumbai airport against the Omicron variant. She was quoted stating that the authorities have apprised her on how they test every passenger on arrival and send them to quarantine. According to her so far, there is no case of Omicron in Mumbai.

Additionally, international passengers arriving in Maharashtra must adhere to the Union government rule. On the other hand, domestic passengers not only have to be fully vaccinated but also carry an RT-PCR test with 72-hours validity.

Apart from this, only those who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to enter malls, shops, establishments, events, programs, etc. On the other hand, amidst the fear of the new variant, a man who returned from South Africa, tested positive for COVID-19 in the Thane district on Sunday, November 28.
