In light of the decision undertaken by the Maharashtra government, the Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Education Department announced that in-person of grades 1 to 7 will reopen in the city, Wednesday, December 1, onwards.

The civic authority stated how they are looking forward to welcoming students to the classroom again.

During the state’s cabinet meeting on Thursday, November 25, the decision to resume in-person classes for grades 1-4 in the rural areas and 1-7 in urban areas in Maharashtra from December 1, was undertaken.

The decision was established during the School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad had a discussion with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the pediatric task force as well as the state cabinet. It is anticipated that the SOPs for the re-opening of schools will be updated.

Additionally, reports had earlier stated that since the first day of reopening schools on October 4, almost 30,250 students which are nearly less than half of the total strength attended classes at civic-run schools.

It is claimed that at these civic-operated schools, by the end of October, the attendance had fallen by over 50 per cent. Previously, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educational establishments in the city were undertaking a hybrid model of learning.
