Statistics from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) operated schools highlight that, additional students are coming for in-person classes a month post the reopening of schools for grades 8-12 in Mumbai, stated reports.

From the 71,923 students in grades 8-10 throughout 867 civic-operated schools, nearly 58 per which is 42,104 students have begun in-person classes. On October 4, when the schools reopened the attendance was between 30-35 per cent.

On the first day of reopening on October 4, nearly 30,250 pupils which are less than half of the aggregate strength attended classes. The next day, the numbers fell to 23,162. By the end of October, the attendance had gone to more than 50 per cent, elucidated the data.

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, schools are undertaking a hybrid model. From the 867 civic-operated schools, 809 have begun physical classes. According to the BMC, parents of nearly 66 per cent of these pupils which are 47,634 pupils have accorded their written permission to send their children to school.

Based on statistics, grade 10 students are more regular when it comes to attending schools in contrast to eighth and ninth grades, claimed principals.

On the other hand, parents of 24,289 pupils haven’t given their consent for their children to attend classes. Nearly, 194 students have altered schools, based on information from the civic authority.
