In a bid to quell fears of customers with regard to getting food delivered, Zomato has now introduced a new feature within its app that displays the body temperature of the delivery agent carrying the food. This can be tracked as soon as the delivery agent has been assigned for an order.

Previously, apps like Zomato and Swiggy enabled contactless deliveries across the country in a bid to improve social distancing measures. However, this would only work for prepaid orders as no-contact delivery requires you to be at a safe distance from the delivery agent. Keeping this in mind, exchanging cash is not recommended.

Apps like Zomato and Swiggy recently started deliveries of groceries to the customers, putting their existing infrastructure into work. While Zomato operates its new grocery delivery service in 80 cities of the country, Swiggy has a wider reach with 125 cities currently covered.

This allows customers to order groceries the way they order food from their favourite restaurants, although it’s still not widely available across the country. Zomato has imposed a limit of up to 12Kg of groceries per customer.

Concerns regarding delivery agents were at the forefront recently when a delivery executive from a South Delhi pizza chain tested positive. As a consequence, he was sent into government-approved quarantine while all of his colleagues and close contacts were also sent into institutional quarantine.

In a time like this when an invisible virus is choking the world of its human resources, strict measures like social distancing and proper hygiene combined with staying at home are considered to be the best remedies to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The inclusion of thermal temperatures of delivery agents is certainly a step in the right direction and will hopefully motivate other delivery platforms to implement a similar feature. Zomato mentions that delivery agents with higher temperatures will not be allowed to conduct deliveries.
